The group identified four key tasks to be undertaken:

1. To develop a county accident prevention strategy to help agreed local "Health of the Nation" targets (completed 1995).
2. To identify the relevant variables for an accident and emergency minimum data set for implementing and monitoring a local accident prevention strategy (ongoing).
3. To develop joint accident/casualty reduction programmes and evaluate their effectiveness (ongoing).
4. To develop and support Health Alliances for accident prevention programmes (ongoing).
